Alex Baker has over ten years’ experience as a professional economist, having worked for regulators, for government, in industry, and in consultancy.
He gained extensive experience of merger control at the Office of Fair Trading as the lead economist on over twenty cases. He also represented the UK competition authorities at the European Commission, and in the International Competition Network Merger Working Group.
Alex recently advised the ministerial team at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on BBC Charter Review, contributing to the White Paper.
He started his career as a consultant on regulation and competition for PwC, before joining the BBC to advise its senior management on regulatory and competition issues. He also worked for Monitor, the economic regulator for the UK health sector. He holds degrees in economics from Oxford and Birkbeck.
Alex is a Non-Governmental Advisor to the International Competition Network, and is a member of the Council of Management for the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).
