James has over 12 years of experience working as an economist for both competition authorities and in central Government.
As an economist at the Competition and Markets Authority and the Competition Commission, he worked on several complex market investigations, as well as mergers, competition and consumer enforcement cases.
Prior to joining the CMA, James worked for the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, providing advice on a number of issues including banking, aviation, higher education and competition reform. He also spent time at the Office of Fair Trading and the Department of Health.
James holds degrees from London School of Economics and Birkbeck College, University of London.
