About Fingleton Associates
Our vision is of markets that work well for society. We help smooth unnecessary frictions that exist between companies, regulators and markets.
The firm was founded in 2013 by John Fingleton, who had previously run the UK Office of Fair Trading (now the Competition and Markets Authority) and the Irish Competition Authority, and was Chair of the International Competition Network.
Our team is multidisciplinary, combining those with first-rate training in economics, law and other areas. What unites us is the ability to tackle complex matters from first principles, often anticipating issues before others do.
Many of our staff have worked for competition authorities or for regulators. Consumers, and the benefits they and the wider economy derive from competition and innovation, are central to how we think about the issues our clients face. We also understand first-hand the challenges for regulators in seeking to fulfill their statutory objectives.
What we do
We help our clients understand and manage regulatory processes, such as conduct investigations, market reviews and mergers. We help them anticipate and manage regulatory risk. We ask the difficult questions before others do.
Our client base is diverse and covers many of the highest profile competition and regulatory matters in the last few years. We also play an active role in policy and policy development, particularly in relation to disruption and disruptive technologies.
Most of our clients operate in the UK, though we also have clients in other European countries and further afield.
How we work
We are a young and entrepreneurial organisation. Our team is small and collaborative, and the team structure is relatively flat. We all work across clients and client issues.
Our interactions are open and honest, and we value the range of professional and personal perspectives our people bring. We value the life our people have beyond work, and encourage and enable a healthy work-life balance and rich personal development.
We typically have a direct working relationship with our clients, and often work alongside other advisors, including economists and lawyers.
Who we are looking for
We value insight of how competition authorities, regulators or government work. Many of our people have previously worked for an agency, and others have done agency-facing work.
As we are a small and growing team, with strong working relationships with our clients, we place a premium on good interpersonal skills.
Individuals who are inquisitive, articulate and pro-active about personal development would be particularly well suited to our working culture.
